For so long I measured happiness and self worth off of whether I had a significant other. Adventure and travel tended to only sound promising if I had someone else to share it with. And the thought of being alone for an extended period of time terrified me. To be completely honest I’m sure a majority of the human population probably feels this exact same way. I don’t know if it’s the hype of “relationship goals” we encounter every time we open a social media app, or if we are all just genuinely frightened by the idea of venturing out solo and exploring who we are and what we want. But I can tell you that those who don’t take the time to really look inside and soul search are doing themselves a great injustice. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t even remotely nervous about flying to a foreign country and living in a jungle disconnected from everything I know for two months. But instead of letting that uncertainty and slight fear control me, I thrive off of that feeling. The unexpected adventures remind me that anything and everything is possible if you just go for it. Get out of your comfort zone. Do what YOU want to do. And most importantly take the time to truly love yourself, for yourself. Passion over everything.
